Escape the noise and step into two of the Netherlands’ most peaceful corners—Zaanse Schans and Giethoorn. Each offers a different side of the Dutch countryside, both rich with charm, character, and history.
Zaanse Schans gives you a glimpse into the Netherlands of the 18th century, with its windmills and working workshops. Giethoorn, with its quiet canals and thatched houses, feels like a storybook village floating on water.
This private tour gives you the best of both.
Zaanse Schans sits just north of Amsterdam. It’s a snapshot of old Holland, built along the banks of the Zaan River. This village was once the heart of Dutch industry, and many of the windmills here still turn like they did hundreds of years ago.
Walk among wooden houses painted in soft greens. Peek inside windmills used for grinding spices or sawing wood. Watch craftsmen carve wooden shoes by hand. Smell fresh cheese aging in traditional farms.
This place isn’t just for looking—it’s for learning and tasting. Every step brings you closer to the life Dutch families lived centuries ago.
Start with the windmill tour. Step inside and feel the power of the wind turning the giant sails. From up top, you’ll get wide views of the flat Dutch land stretching in every direction.
Visit the clog workshop and see how these famous shoes are made. Sample creamy Gouda and sharp Edam in the cheese farm. Walk through museums filled with antique tools and colorful tales of trade.
For a slower pace, rent a bike or walk the quiet paths between the houses. It’s a peaceful way to take in the smell of grass and river water, and the occasional clatter of wooden shoes on cobblestone.
Now shift to Giethoorn, a place with no streets—just narrow canals, footpaths, and the occasional whisper of a boat’s motor.
They call it the Venice of the Netherlands, but that’s selling it short. Giethoorn is quieter, more open, and surrounded by nothing but water and green.
Here, locals move by boat and foot. Thatched-roof homes line the canals, connected by wooden bridges and garden paths. Everything moves slowly. And that’s the whole point.
Hop into a whisper boat—small, electric, and silent. Glide past reed-lined banks and under low bridges. With no traffic or noise, all you hear is the soft splash of water and the hum of birds in the trees.
You can also explore on foot. Every corner has a photo waiting to be taken: ducks paddling by, ivy-covered roofs, flowers in every window. Stop in small cafes along the way. Try poffertjes, Dutch mini pancakes dusted with sugar, or a bowl of fresh pea soup on a chilly day.
For those curious about the area’s history, small museums show how Giethoorn was built on peat and why it looks the way it does today.
Both places are peaceful, but in very different ways. Zaanse Schans tells the story of work—mills turning, tools shaping, hands creating. It’s built on movement and craft.
Giethoorn is slower. It’s a place to float, watch, and breathe. No engines roar. No crowds rush. Just water, sky, and stillness.
Together, they show two sides of the Dutch countryside. One full of motion. One full of calm. But both share a deep love for nature, tradition, and beauty.
Wear good walking shoes. Dress for the weather—it changes fast out here. Bring a camera with lots of space. You’ll use it.
Start early to beat the crowds, and take your time. Don’t try to rush. These places weren’t built for speed. They were made to be savored.
Taste the local snacks. Ask questions in the workshops. Wave to people from the boat. And most of all, look around.
This private tour of Zaanse Schans and Giethoorn is a rare chance to slow down and see Holland the way it was meant to be seen.

Holland knows how to charm you. From endless tulip fields to villages where roads are replaced by canals, this tour brings you face-to-face with two of the country’s most stunning sights—Keukenhof Gardens and Giethoorn Village.
This private tour is your invitation to walk through fields bursting with flowers and float through a village pulled from a storybook. It’s the Holland you’ve always imagined—alive, colorful, and peaceful.
You step into Keukenhof, and it’s like the world shifts. Color floods every corner. Tulips stretch across the land in perfect lines, each row brighter than the last. But it’s not just tulips. Daffodils, hyacinths, and orchids bloom in every shape and color. Every path you follow leads to another surprise—a fountain framed by blossoms, a sculpture nestled in petals, a quiet bench with a view that feels unreal.
Keukenhof opens its gates just once a year, from mid-March to mid-May. The best time to visit? Mid-April, when the tulip fields are at their peak.
Tulips aren’t just flowers here—they’re part of Dutch identity. They carry history. They were once so valuable they sparked a market craze. Today, they’re a symbol of the country’s deep connection to nature and art.
Want to capture the moment? Visit early in the morning or just before closing. The soft light makes colors glow. Stand at the edge of the fields for wide shots, or zoom in for detail. Either way, your photos will speak louder than words.
From flowers to canals, you’ll head next to Giethoorn—a village where the only sounds are birds, water, and your boat cutting gently through the canal.
They call it the “Venice of the North,” and once you’re here, you’ll see why. No cars. No rush. Just narrow waterways, wooden bridges, and homes with thatched roofs that look like they belong in a painting.
You glide under bridges, past green gardens and old farmhouses. Locals wave from their porches. You stop for coffee in a café that floats by the water. Walking paths curve through the village, letting you explore at your pace. Every turn offers a new view.
Giethoorn isn’t just pretty—it’s preserved. The village holds stories of Dutch water life, old trades, and quiet ways of living that still thrive today.
This full-day private tour blends the two best faces of Holland. You begin your day with a stroll through the world’s most famous tulip gardens, and end it drifting through a peaceful water village.

There’s a version of the Netherlands you see in postcards: windmills spinning by the river, peaceful canals stretching past storybook homes, fishing boats lined up beside wooden piers. This tour brings that image to life—three towns, each with its own rhythm, tied together in one unforgettable journey.
You’ll explore the past in Zaanse Schans, taste the sea in Volendam, and float through calm waters in Giethoorn. It’s not just sightseeing. The Private Tour Zaanse Schans Volendam and Giethoorn is stepping into the heartbeat of Dutch culture, one village at a time.
This private tour Zaanse Schans Volendam and Giethoorn is more than a day out—it’s a deep breath of fresh air away from the crowds. You’ll travel in comfort with your own guide, moving at your pace. Every stop gives you a chance to see, taste, and feel the Netherlands beyond Amsterdam.
From the open-air museum in Zaanse Schans to the harbor charm of Volendam and the peaceful canals of Giethoorn, you’ll walk through centuries of Dutch life. Wooden clogs, smoked fish, and quiet boat rides aren’t clichés here—they’re real, and they’re waiting for you.
Zaanse Schans isn’t a recreation—it’s a piece of living history. Nestled along the Zaan River, this village preserves what the Netherlands looked like centuries ago. Traditional green-painted houses stand beside working windmills, their blades slicing through the sky just like they did in the 17th century.
You’ll step inside windmills still grinding spices or pumping oil. Walk into workshops where wooden shoes are carved by hand. Taste creamy cheese straight from the source. Every path leads to a new corner of Dutch life, frozen in time but full of life.
Volendam sits by the water, its streets buzzing with color and character. Locals wear traditional dress—not for show, but because it’s part of who they are. It’s a small town with a big personality, and you’ll feel it the second you arrive.
The harbor is where it all happens—fishing boats coming in, markets selling the day’s catch, and cafés serving herring the way it’s meant to be eaten. Take a walk past the old wooden houses. Watch artists paint scenes you’re standing in. Snap a photo in traditional Volendam costume if you like. Then find a seat and try the smoked eel.
No roads. No cars. Just canals and narrow paths. Giethoorn is often called the “Venice of the North,” but it’s quieter, greener, and more personal. Life moves slowly here, and that’s exactly the point.
Take a boat through the village, drifting past thatched cottages and flower-covered bridges. You’ll see ducks paddle alongside you and gardens blooming at the water’s edge. Stop to walk along cobblestone paths. Visit small museums or sip coffee by the canal. This is peace you can feel.
This private tour Zaanse Schans Volendam and Giethoorn isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about feeling the wind on your face by a windmill, tasting fresh seafood by the harbor, and hearing only water as you glide through Giethoorn. It’s about seeing the Netherlands with fresh eyes.
Book this private experience and give yourself a day you’ll remember long after you’ve left Holland.

Escape Amsterdam for a day and explore windmills, canals, and fishing villages in Zaanse Schans, Volendam, and Giethoorn with Holland Experience.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to step into a postcard from the Netherlands, this is your chance. Picture this: one minute you’re wandering among iconic Dutch windmills in Zaanse Schans, and the next, you’re gliding through the peaceful canals of Giethoorn—the Venice of the North. Add a cozy canal cruise to the mix and you’ve got yourself the ultimate Dutch countryside escape. It’s called the Amsterdam: Giethoorn and Zaanse Schans with Canal Cruise Day Tour, and it’s a full-day journey through the soul of Holland.
This isn’t your average sightseeing tour. It’s a deep dive into the rich tapestry of Dutch culture and nature. From the historic windmills of Zaanse Schans to the fairy-tale canals of Giethoorn, this day trip from Amsterdam is equal parts sightseeing, storytelling, and sensory experience.
You’ll kick things off in Zaanse Schans, where history practically hugs you. Traditional houses, centuries-old windmills, and local artisans bring the 18th century to life. Then it’s off to Giethoorn—no roads, just tranquil waterways and quaint cottages. Think of it as floating through a dream.
And yes, there’s a canal cruise included. No need to paddle—just sit back, soak up the views, and let the “Venice of the North” work its magic.
Zaanse Schans is like time travel without the weird sci-fi. Located just 20 minutes from Amsterdam, this open-air museum gives you a front-row seat to 18th and 19th-century Holland. Think green-painted wooden houses, cobbled paths, and—you guessed it—majestic Dutch windmills spinning in the breeze.
This area was once the industrial heart of the Netherlands, and some of the windmills here are still hard at work today, grinding spices, sawing wood, or pressing oil just like they did centuries ago.
There’s no shortage of hands-on fun. Want to see how clogs are carved? Step into the wooden shoe workshop. Craving a taste of Holland? The cheese farms here serve up some of the best gouda you’ll ever sample.
Other highlights include:
Every corner of Zaanse Schans tells a story—and it’s all deliciously photogenic.
Next stop: Giethoorn, a village so peaceful it feels like a fairy tale in motion. No traffic jams here—just silent canals, wooden arch bridges, and whispering willows. This place earns its nickname, Venice of the North, with charm to spare.
It’s the kind of spot where life moves at the speed of a swan. Locals use boats instead of cars, and the only sounds you’ll hear are the soft splash of water and the occasional duck quack.
Start with a scenic canal cruise with a cozy covered cruiser, gliding through Giethoorn’s waterways is pure magic. You’ll pass thatched-roof cottages, blooming gardens, and hidden nooks that feel untouched by time.
Stroll the narrow footpaths and cross charming bridges at your own pace. There are cafés with canal views, local shops selling handmade goods, and plenty of picture-perfect moments around every turn.
Let’s recap: you’ll visit two of Holland’s most iconic destinations, each offering a completely different flavor of the Dutch countryside. You’ll witness traditional craftsmanship, indulge in local treats, and float through one of Europe’s most picturesque villages.
This isn’t just a day trip from Amsterdam—it’s a full-blown Holland Experience. If you’re after authentic sights, cultural immersion, and Instagram-worthy views, this one’s got your name on it.

Picture a day that begins in a sea of color and ends with the soft sound of water under a whispering breeze. This is the Keukenhof and Giethoorn tour—two sides of the Dutch experience brought together in one unforgettable journey. From tulip-lined paths to peaceful canal rides, it’s a full escape into the best of springtime Holland.
This day trip blends two of the Netherlands’ most iconic destinations: the vibrant Keukenhof Gardens and the tranquil village of Giethoorn. You’ll travel from Amsterdam through scenic countryside, explore flower gardens that stretch as far as the eye can see, and drift through canals in a village with no roads. The tour combines Dutch tradition, culture, and nature in a way that’s both relaxing and enriching.
It’s a great way to see how two very different places reveal the soul of Holland.
Step into Keukenhof, where seven million bulbs bloom into a world of color. The air is filled with floral scent, and every path leads to another breathtaking view—tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and orchids laid out in perfect design. Landscaped ponds reflect the petals above, and windmills peek out in the distance.
Keukenhof only opens from mid-March to mid-May, and the flowers hit their peak in April. That’s when you’ll want your camera ready—sunrise and late afternoon light make the fields glow. The gardens are more than a photo opportunity though. They’re a celebration of the tulip, once so prized in the Netherlands it sparked a financial craze.
Take your time, follow the scent trails, and don’t miss the indoor pavilions—they show off rare blooms you won’t see in the fields.
After a morning of bright colors, you’ll head to something calmer—Giethoorn. This village is built on water, where canals take the place of streets. Boats glide under low wooden bridges. Ducks paddle beside traditional thatched cottages. There are no cars here, just silence, soft splashes, and the occasional bicycle bell.
Giethoorn dates back to the 13th century, when peat diggers carved out the land and left behind lakes and waterways. Today, it’s a quiet place that feels like a fairytale come to life. You’ll explore it on foot and by boat, moving gently through narrow canals and under arched bridges. Along the way, you’ll pass museums, cafés, and hidden gardens tucked behind ivy-covered homes.
This isn’t a tourist trap—it’s the kind of place where locals still tend to their gardens, kids wave from boats, and the rhythm of the day is slow and steady.
This full-day tour from Amsterdam brings you face to face with what makes the Netherlands special. You’ll start in the world-famous Keukenhof Gardens and then ease into the peaceful charm of Giethoorn.
The tour includes transportation from central Amsterdam, entry to Keukenhof, a guided canal boat ride in Giethoorn, and time to explore both destinations at your own pace. Along the way, your guide will share stories about Dutch culture, traditions, and history that tie everything together.
To make the most of the day, wear comfortable shoes, bring your camera, and check the weather. Spring in Holland can be fresh, and you’ll want to dress in layers.

This tour isn’t just a trip, it’s a window into the soul of the Netherlands. You’ll explore the old-world charm of Zaanse Schans, the coastal character of Volendam, and the fairytale peace of Giethoorn. Each place tells its own story, shaped by wind, water, and time. If you want to feel the heartbeat of Holland, this journey is where you start. The Amsterdam: Zaanse Schans Volendam and Giethoorn Tour lets you make memories you’ll never forget.
Step outside Amsterdam and you’ll find a different rhythm. Life flows slower here, carried by the wind through blades of wooden windmills and across the surface of quiet canals. On this guided tour, you’ll visit three of the most iconic spots in the Dutch countryside. Zaanse Schans shows you the power of craftsmanship and tradition. Volendam introduces you to a fishing village where life is steeped in culture and fresh seafood. Giethoorn takes you off the road and onto the water, where boats glide silently past old thatched-roof houses.
You won’t just see these places, you’ll feel them.
Zaanse Schans sits just north of Amsterdam, but it feels like a step back in time. This small village is an open-air museum, keeping the spirit of the 18th and 19th centuries alive. The skyline is marked by windmills still grinding spices, oil, and flour. Their sails cut through the breeze like they did hundreds of years ago.
Walk the cobbled paths and peek inside workshops. See how traditional wooden clogs are made by hand. Watch cheese-makers in action and taste the sharp, creamy flavors of Dutch gouda and edam. You’ll smell the smoke from wood-fired ovens and see artisans carving, painting, and turning raw materials into heritage.
Every building, from the green-painted houses to the old barns, has been preserved or rebuilt to reflect the past. Zaanse Schans doesn’t just show you history—it lets you walk through it.
As the bus rolls into Volendam, you’ll notice the bright boats bobbing in the harbor and the line of seafood stalls offering herring, kibbeling, and fresh eel. This is a village that knows the sea and has lived with it for centuries.
Volendam’s people are proud of their roots. Many still wear traditional Dutch dress for festivals, and local museums showcase the region’s customs and music. The village has a creative spirit too—you’ll find artists sketching the harbor and musicians playing folk tunes on the streets.
Walk along the dike, order a plate of fried fish, and feel the wind coming off the IJsselmeer. It’s not about rushing through sights here. It’s about slowing down and taking it in.
Giethoorn doesn’t have traffic lights or car horns. Instead, it has canals, wooden bridges, and silence. Tucked in the province of Overijssel, this peaceful place moves at the speed of a whisper. Locals use boats to get around, and visitors are welcome to do the same.
A boat ride through Giethoorn feels like floating through a dream. Reeds sway on the banks, ducks glide across the water, and each cottage looks like a painting. Most of the homes are centuries old, with thatched roofs and colorful gardens. You’ll pass under footbridges that link the walking paths across the canals.
There are no loud sounds—just the soft splash of water and the occasional call of a bird. When your boat tour ends, take a walk through the village. Stop at a small café, sip Dutch coffee, and watch life go by without rush or noise.
This full-day Holland Experience tour from Amsterdam is made for travelers who want more than city lights. You’ll need comfortable shoes, a camera with plenty of space, and an open mind. Each stop offers a different slice of Dutch culture—from the wind-powered industry of Zaanse Schans to the sea-hardened traditions of Volendam and the water-bound serenity of Giethoorn.
You won’t just see the Netherlands. You’ll live it, one village at a time. Don’t wait until the last minute, book your Zaanse Schans Volendam and Giethoorn Tour today…

I was delighted with this tour today. The tour guide was very funny and entertaining… but the most important thing is those three destinations. classy, charming, and gorgeous… highly recommended.
The tour with Holland Experience was great! Our guide, Mr. Naufal, and the driver, Pete, were both super kind and friendly. Mr. Naufal shared lots of helpful tips during the ride—like where to find free restrooms and some great vegetarian restaurant options. The trip covered all three cities without feeling rushed. We started around 9 AM and had plenty of time at each stop, including the wooden shoe and cheese factory, and got back around 7:30 PM. Definitely recommend it!
